Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy Musical Theatre Workshop

Now Enrolling for Broadway Jr. Workshop — A Musical Theatre Adventure for Beginners!


This popular one-day-a-week musical theatre workshop allows beginner students an opportunity to act, sing and dance. Their Broadway Jr. workshop is the perfect place for kids looking to gain experience in performing or just try it out. 

Each session has a different curriculum that builds technical skills and performance experience.



Ages 6-13
January 24-June 6
Fridays 5:30-7:30pm
$50 per month
Kids will sing, act and dance their way through fun Disney numbers in a special review performed in early June 2014. Visit the MPAA website for more information and to register.

AUDITIONS and CLASSES: Serendipity Theater Offers Stage Combat, Acting and Variety Show

AUDITIONS  

Serendipity Players is holding auditions for storytellers, comedians, and other entertainers for our first annual “May Commotion to Celebrate Spring!” scheduled to open May 17 for a one night only show.
Storytellers and comedians should have a prepared piece, no longer than two minutes in length.

Rehearsals will be held on weekends.

CLASSES


Brian Reed
STAGE COMBAT! 
Actors, swordsman, class clowns! Come learn some basics of how to perform hand to hand combat and dueling techniques for the stage. Have you ever wanted to drag some one across the room by their hair? Or look like a Musketeer? Come learn how to do that safely and make it look good for an audience.

This class, instructed by Brian Reed, will teach short choreography for both styles and safety, and how to read written choreography. Class instructor will be Brian Reed, an actor, stage combatant, and fight choreographer with thirty years of experience. Wear clothes for movement. Class recommended for ages thirteen and up. $35.00 for the class.

Step into the spotlight! Have friends told you that you should be on stage or TV? If you’ve always been a ham and wanted to take it to the stage, here’s your chance. Have fun and get comfortable performing in front of an audience, and more confident with public speaking. Acting basics, including physical choices and constructing characters will be taught in an active learning approach. Final class will be a performance for family and friends. Instructor: Tony Broom, Artistic Director for Serendipity Players.

8 Weeks plus Student Performance; begins April 20, $150.

Two Classes Announced by Serendipity Playhouse

TWO NEW CLASSES are being offered at Serendipity Playhouse. They are:


STAGE COMBAT Instructor: Brian Reed.

Magenta Theater Academy Offers Class for Kids

TALES from the WARDROBE: 

A theatrical tribute to the wondrous tales that C.S. Lewis wove into our lives


Instructor: Jaynie Roberts, Artistic Director for Magenta Theater.

Ages: 8-17 (The class will be capped at twenty students to ensure individual attention.)

Classes: 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays, Jan. 10 through March 14, 2013.

Final Performance: 7:30 p.m., March 15 at Magenta Theater, 606 Main, Vancouver, Wash.

Cost: $140. A registration link can be found at the Magenta website. No other money is required (except for performance tickets) and no parental obligations are expected. Registration closes when twenty students have registered and paid.

In class, students will bring to life characters such as Peter, Susan, Lucy, Edmund, Mr. Tumnus, Dr. Cornelius, Prince Caspian and more. Students will be taught a realistic/natural acting style utilizing such skills as character development, natural stage movement, script memorization, simple costuming and makeup.

Please Note: Attendance at all classes is essential. If absences are unavoidable, please advise instructor when registering. Ability to read is important as we will be working with scripts. Hesitant readers will be given smaller roles to help them feel more comfortable.

Improv Your Life: Classes for a better you offered at Serendipity Playhouse


Serendipity Playhouse presents "CREATE YOUR LIFE: Improvisational Adventures," a six week course in the basics of living an improvisational life.


Play! Laugh! Attract! Expand your ability to interact with others and life. Learn to creatively weave what life offers from your authentic self. Have fun while increasing your confidence. No acting skills necessary. Explore the rules of improvisation and say yes to life!

Learn how to:
  1. Never say "no". Here's your chance to accept another's offer.
  2. Say "yes, AND..." Add your unique contribution to the picture.
  3. Make eye contact and listen. Give the gift of your heart.
  4. You don't have to be funny. Just be yourself.
  5. You can look good when your partner looks good. Honor the other!

Taking this class will not only add a lot of fun and play into your life, it will:
  • Increase your ability to express yourself when you most want to
  • Help you build deeper relationships with others
  • Build confidence and skill for thinking on your feet

Experience your own and others' life stories through interactive games and authentic sharing. Everyone is welcome whether you’re a ham or introvert—it's about authentic sharing. At the end of the six weeks, participants can invite their family and friends to a performance evening of Improvisational Theater and Story-telling.

Magenta Offers English Accents for the Stage

Instructor: Jaynie Roberts - a native of Northern England
Dates: August 14 & 28, 2012 (this is a 5-hour class spread over two evenings)
Time: 6:30 - 9 p.m. both days
Recommended for ages 18 and up.
Cost: $20 for both sessions
Pre-registration REQUIRED to ensure sufficient materials

Learn how to master English accents for stage productions. This skill will differentiate you from your fellow Americans who oftentimes turn to "cockney' for their roles. You will NOT learn Cockney in this class! You will learn the differences between a northern and southern English accent, and be able to use these to portray a variety of characters.
