Composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, once again partners with lyricist Tim Rice for a NEW adaption of the MGM classic "The Wizard of Oz" (2011). For me this is fantastic news! I love the MGM movie and songs and I love Webber and Rice.
All the original songs are intact and new material has been added by the team (six new songs, plus additional lyrics on four of the originals).
Previously the Webber/Rice team wrote: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita, as well as others.
Webber is also the composer of: Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Sunset Boulevard, and many others.
Rice is the lyricist for: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida, Aladdin, King David and The Road to El Dorado (either with Alan Menkin or Elton John).
The short run at Seattle's Paramount Theater takes place October 9-11 with both matinee and evening shows. I'd go, if it was in my budget, but tickets run $30-75 (plus the gas).
