Serendipity Players is proud to present "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling from June 1-24, 2012 at Serendipity Playhouse, 500 Washington St., Vancouver, Wash.

Laughter and tears are on display in the lives of six southern women across three generations in Steel Magnolias. Harling’s play finds both the drama and the comedy, while never turning the characters into clichés. Steel Magnolias is a contemporary play with both comic and serious moments. Life’s ups and downs are experienced by a close group of friends at Truvy’s Beauty Shop.

“This play is a favorite with actresses and we were almost overwhelmed with the response at the auditions," said director Tony Broom. "We were able to cast some extremely talented women from Vancouver and Portland.”

“The play is a bit different from the movie," he says, "but I think people waiting for their favorite lines won’t be disappointed.” [Editor's Note: I think it is quite different. The play uses a unit set, while the film has multiple locations. Also the six women carry the play, there are no men or other supporting roles as there are in the movie.]
